Continuum of Order of Growth of Infinite Sequences

This post is here solely to get the above image, which others may opt to use, put on the web in a published spot for easy attribution after I shared it on Twitter with the #MTBoS community. I have licensed it with Creative Commons.

It illustrates some key anchor classes of sequences, all of which diverge to infinity, and how their rates of growth differ. In generating it, I was working with a Calculus student where we examined by taking limits how to build this continuum and the fact that the limit of "slower"/"faster" growing infinities was always 0, while the limit of "faster"/"slower" was always infinity. Joe Moeller noted that if you swap the "fast/slow" direction, then it represents algorithmic complexity for computational problems.

It is not the only tool out there like this; Matt Salomone has an "Order-O-Meter" you may like too.

Have fun teaching, kiddos.
