In Between

It's what's in between.

From the first step on to the bridge
Every step
Every breath
Every breeze
As you travel
Every moment you feel distracted
Every moment wondering
How long will it take?
Will I ever get there?

It's what's in between.

The sound
of the pencil scratching on the paper
Visceral
Inviting
Aggressive
Whatever it is I'm experiencing right now
I can hear it
In the pencil
On the paper

It's what's in between.

I observe my heart beating.
I'm excited
I'm fascinated
By the words that are coming
To me
They are not just words
They are playthings
It's not just text
It's something to talk to
Somewhere on this journey,
I might uncover who I am
Or what I want to be
I might uncover how to change the world
It's what's in between

There are other verses.
They will come.
But right now,
Between the what and the why
I'm transforming.
That's what happens
In between

At the heart of education

As part of a class activity on holistic approaches to curriculum--readings by Parker Palmer and Rachel Kessler, Karen Armstrong, and about the model of Krishnamurti--we found ourselves outside, focusing on the spiritual aspects of teaching. In those moments, this is the poem that came to mind.
I included it in a storyboard final project (Storyboard That!) so my saved copy is only a set of images.

I will take the time to add backstory later.
